The HMV brand – embodied by Nipper the dog listening to an old gramophone – may be in the hands of administrators in the UK but HMV is still top dog with Tinamps buyers. In Tinamps’ Christmas Top of the Tins, HMV was the most popular with Jack Daniels hard on Nipper’s heels followed by Bob Marley. Nostalgia isn’t what it was … but there is always a healthy market for trusted brands as proved by the Tinamps HMV popularity. Here’s Nipper on a 1912 HMV gramophone … and a 2012 HMV Tinamp bought by Tinamp enthusiast Rosa Kleve from The House of Experience in Holland. “I gave it as a present to a dear friend, who is a huge fan of HMV. He thought it was the most original gift he ever got.” There’s life in the old dog yet. Worth woofing about.
